To celebrate the release of the much anticipated new James Bond film, 'No Time To Die', we looked back at an old article from 'around ealing', which highlighted the history of Bond in the borough.
The Connerys in Acton
In October 1962, a large house in Centre Avenue, overlooking Acton Park, was brought for £9,000 by Sean Connery and his then wife, Diane Cilento, the same year Connery shot to fame by starring in the first James Bond film, Dr No.
Unfortunately, his first experiences of Acton were not altogether great.
Shortly after moving in, and when he was in Spain filming, the house was broken into by four burglars who stole £50 worth of goods, it was a 'hell of a mess' the star later commented.
However, 'around Ealing' reported that he and his family chose to live in Acton because it was away from the heart of show business.
His wife, Cilento said: "We looked around for ages to find a house in an unfashionable part of London."
Sean said: "Acton is a good place to live in. It's near town. That's good. You can say I'm glad to be here.
He added: "In West 3 nobody bothers to look over the fence to see how James Bond digs the garden."
The Connerys stayed six year, before leaving Acton by 1968.
