YESTERDAY (March 30) marked the 45th anniversary of Palestinian Land Day with Ealing residents also joining in.

Around 50 people took to Acton Park yesterday afternoon to commemorate the memory of March 30, 1976, flying Palestinian flags and displaying pro-Palestine signs.

Acton resident Anastasia Revi happened to be passing by the event and told Nub News: "I didn't really know much about Land Day, I looked it up when I got home to find out more.

"Lots of other passers-by seemed interested too, don't know if it's something we've had in Acton before.

"It was great to see everyone keeping a safe distance from each other and wearing face masks too."

Land Day is commemorated following a general strike and marches that were organised in Arab towns in Palestine, in response to the Israeli government's announcement of a plan to expropriate thousands of dunams (around 900-1,000 square metres) of land for 'security and settlement purposes.'

In the ensuing confrontations with the Israeli army and the police, six Arab citizens were killed, around 100 were wounded and hundreds of others were arrested.
