AN Ealing party decorations business has made the most of the coronavirus pandemic and has become very successful.

Britta Buchholz is the proud owner of Tara's Wonderworld, setting up the business in 2018 and naming it after her daughter.

She told Nub News: "When I first started the business, I wanted to name it something personal so that people can see I stand behind it 100% and that it's my 'baby'."

Tara's Wonderworld sells affordable yet unique and tasteful party decorations on e-commerce website, Etsy.

Buchholz left her job in investment banking when her second child was born, in order to spend more time at home with her kids.

She said: "I always liked unique party decorations and I thought there was a gap in the market for high quality yet affordable decorations."

Working from the workshop in her home in Pitshanger, Buchholz and her three members of staff prepare and ship over 100 orders a day to happy customers in the UK and worldwide.

"What we offer is modern and tasteful party decorations, nothing tacky.

"We want to add that 'wow' factor for people, so that when they set up their decorations, the pictures they take are perfect for Instagram and Pinterest," added the mum-of-two.

The coronavirus pandemic has negatively impacted many businesses and it originally seemed that Tara's Wonderworld would be another one on the list.

However, after the initial shock of the first lockdown in March, things started to change.

Buchholz, who is originally from Germany but has lived in Ealing for seven years said: "The first two weeks were tough because the whole world just seemed to stop.

"But after that sales just started to really take off and kind of exploded.

"Because people couldn't go out to celebrate, or couldn't invite friends to their parties, they tried to compensate by going all out on the decorations to make up for it."

Tara's Wonderworld has grown so much in such a short period of time, that Buchholz is looking to expand in order to meet the business's growing needs.

She said: "Once COVID is over, I plan to hire some more people, but at the moment that isn't possible due to the restrictions."
