Ealing Paralympian, Hilmy Shawwal, was inducted into the London Youth Games (LYG) Hall of Fame last week becoming the second ever wheelchair racer to accomplish the feat.

The Tanzanian wheelchair racer, who competed in the Paris Paralympic games last month, follows in the path of his mentor David Weir by becoming the second wheelchair racer to be inducted into the LYG Hall of Fame.

Hilmy, a former LYG competitor, was inducted into the Hall of Fame during the LYG's Workforce Celebration Evening 2024 at Livery Hall on Thursday, 3 October.

The event celebrated the 'outstanding' contributions to the competition, recognising GamesForce volunteers and other key individuals who have made a significant impact on both the London Youth Games and the wider sporting community across London.

LYG said: "We are honoured to be hosting this evening at the historic Guildhall, a venue that has welcomed royalty, state visitors, and notable civic events throughout its long history.

"For 47 years, the London Youth Games have been an amazing celebration of young Londoners, bringing together communities across generations in a spirit of mutual respect, confidence, and trust.

"The evening offers an opportunity to celebrate and recognise the positive impact of a range of individuals on young Londoners through support of and involvement in the Games."

Hilmy joins Alex Yee, Noah Williams, Sam Reardon and Pat Andrews as new inductees into LYG Hall of Fame.

Reacting to being a part of LYG's Hall of Fame, Hilmy told Ealing Nub News: "Being inducted into the London Youth Games Hall of Fame just captured an incredible year for myself and those that have supported me since day one.

"Being the second ever wheelchair racer to be in there is something so unreal, I feel truly honoured to be among amazing names that have already been inducted."

"Thank you to everyone that has helped me achieve what we achieved this year because without you this would of never happened."
