A renowned local music festival makes its return to Ealing in May with two days of live performances to mark its 10th anniversary.

Hanwell Hootie is back, following on from the hotly anticipated Hootie on the Mount in Acton last October.

On Friday, 6 May is the Marshall Hootie, in honour of Jim Marshall for whom local people started the original Hanwell Hootie in 2012, the year he died.

It was from his shop Marshall Amps in Hanwell that the revolutionary Marshall Amp for guitars was launched sixty years ago.

After the ticketed evening of music on Friday, the main Hootie event on Saturday, 7 May, will put the world-famous amp to good use as it offers a free day of music entertainment with live performances from more than 100 bands.

From 1pm until late, music will be found at different times in pubs, St Mellitus Church, Sandy Park and Viaduct Meadow, where main stage is located.

June Martin, director of Hanwell Hootie Music Festival CIC, said: "You could argue that the Hootie – and west London as a whole – hasn't had anything like this calibre of artists all in one place before.

"RSVP Bhangra return to Viaduct Meadow stage to give us a Hootie Bhangra party, while we are thrilled to have much-talked-about acts like Anorak Patch (named by The Times and The Independent as 'Artists of 2022') and, of course, Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes, at the Hootie for the first time, too.

Tickets to the Marshall Hootie cost £15, with a fiver from each ticket donated to the charity YouthMusic to support young musicians.

If you want to get your hands on one of the 10 pairs of tickets being given away to the Friday night, simply answer: In what year was The Hanwell Hootie first held?

Email your answer to [email protected] with the subject line Hootie Competition by Tuesday, 3 May, making sure to include your full name.

The winners will be selected at random on Wednesday, May 4.

Hanwell Hootie will take place on Saturday, 7 May, from 1pm until late.  Most venues are grouped together within the Hanwell Square Mile and all are walkable.

Visit the Hanwell Hootie website for details of the performance schedule and artists.
