Ealing Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) have invited groups to take part in a people's budget conference this Saturday.

The meeting will bring together trade unions, community groups, local campaigns, and others, hoping to start a discussion on developing an alternative budget for Ealing.

The coalition group believe a local people's budget could set a different agenda, based on what the community needs.

They intend to take their alternative budget to the council ahead of the 2022/23 budget meeting, which will take place in either February or March 2022.

They also intend to mount an anti-cuts, anti-austerity challenge to Labour at the council elections in Ealing next May.

Groups, campaigns, and trade unions can make submissions to the coalition based on the organisation and its members' experience of what is needed in Ealing.

The group highlighted the planned closure of Young Adult Services in Southall as an example of the upcoming council budget cuts.

They said that Ealing has £67million in reserves, which they believe should be used to fund services and give time to organise a mass campaign of support amongst residents.

The People's Budget event will take place at 3pm this Saturday, 6 November at Acton Hill Church High Street Acton, Woodlands Avenue, W3 9BU.
