EALING Council will hold a cabinet meeting to consider new active travel measures which include the fate of Ealing's Low Traffic Neighbourhood trials (LTNs) and school streets schemes.

This comes after an independent review recommended Ealing adopt new and improved methods of community engagement on active travel schemes.

The meeting, scheduled next Wednesday (22 September), will consider a report and its recommendations on the London Streetspace Plan (TFL's Covid emergency Transport Measures).

The report includes a review on Ealing's LTN trials, cycle and school streets schemes, and proposals to make some permanent and remove others.

Seven remaining LTN trial schemes are still set to be removed and will be discussed at the meeting.

Cycling advocacy group Ealing Cycling Campaign believe the council agenda goes against previous data about Ealing's LTN schemes.

In a statement, Ealing Cycling Campaign said: "The evidence shows that low-traffic neighbourhoods make streets two to four times safer for walking and cycling.

"If the Labour cabinet votes to remove the LTNs, it will be voting to increase the number of people injured on our roads."

The residents group OneEaling has campaigned for the removal of the LTNs and for the council to introduce proper community consultation.

They say the planters and bollards are unsafe and undemocratic and have said "there is little or no evidence that they are effective in an inner-city context."

In the council report, it recommends Fishers Lane cycle scheme is made permanent, along with a 24-hour bus-lane along Uxbridge Road and a cycle scheme in Church Road, Northolt.

Other proposals include implementing a redesigned LTN in Hamilton Road and another for cycling and walking improvements in Gordon Road.

In August, the council made six cycling provision schemes permanent including an Uxbridge Road cycling route.

The council will continue its plans to make five new school streets schemes permanent, which include: Christ the Saviour CofE Primary School in Ealing, Horsenden Primary in Greenford, North Primary School in Southall, St Joseph's Catholic Primary School in Hanwell and Grange Primary in Ealing.

The seven LTNs still proposed for removal are:

Olive Road (LTN 08)

West Ealing North (LTN 20)

Acton Central (LTN 25)

Loveday Road (LTN 30)

Junction Road (LTN 32)

Bowes Road (LTN 34)

Mattock Lane (LTN 35)

Plans for a cycle scheme for Boston Road will be brought forward at a future date.
