EALING Council has appointed an environmental protection officer to respond to residents' concerns about odours in Southall.

The officer will be based in Southall and will respond to odour complaints five days a week - Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm.

According to the Council, the best way to report an odour, is to use the Odour Collect App, or to email [email protected].

Alternatively, residents can call 073 7548 4782 during officer hours (8am-4pm) and leave a message.

Outside those hours, residents can report odours by calling 020 8825 8111.

Council leader Peter Mason said: "Local residents have genuine concerns about their health and that of their families from the impacts of unpleasant odours, dust, noise and traffic.

"I am committed to leading an open, inclusive and transparent council that will engage with residents in the challenges they and the council face.

"The appointment of an environmental protection officer who will be based in Southall will make it easier for residents to report and also ensure that complaints are logged, witnessed and evidenced in order that they can be used in any future statutory abatement notice."

This comes following Peter Mason's announcement last month that an independent air pollution monitoring will be put in place.

After a process that included consultation with CASH campaigners, independent company Ricardo AEA, has been appointed and it has committed to implementing independent air quality monitoring and providing near real time data directly to the public.

Cllr Mason said: "Activity will now take place to identify locations for the equipment and put in place the works to support the equipment once installed.

"We are working to get monitoring in place as soon as possible and will make the delivery timeframe public when it's confirmed."
