The Prime Minister has revealed the next steps in the government fight against COVID-19.

Speaking in Parliament just now, Boris Johnson revealed the new measures.

They come as the current national lockdown ends on December 2.

Mr Johnson said: "We can see route out of the pandemic for the first time.

"By the Spring the scientific advances should make a COVID lockdown redundant.

"National restrictions will end on December 2.

"People will be able to meet other in outdoor spaces subject to the rule of six.

"Shops and gyms can also now reopen.

"We will return to a regional tier approached."

Details of the Tiers

In Tier 2 alcohol must be served as part of a substantial meal.

In Tier 3 hospitality will be takeaway only.

The 10pm closing time will now signal 'last orders' time with 11pm replacing it as the new closing time.

Events can now be attended by a limited number of people indoors and outdoors.

On Thursday we will find out what tier Ealing and the rest of London will be in.

More regions are expected to be temporarily in the higher tiers.

What will the Christmas Regulations look like?

The Prime Minister was keen to emphasise that Christmas will not be normal this year.

The whole of the UK will have a few day period over Christmas with relaxed restrictions.

The details of this are not yet confirmed.

Rapid Testing and vaccines

Mr Johnson also emphasises the importance of rapid testing.

A new testing programme will be launched in Tier 3 areas in an effort to reduce the rates of coronavirus.

Contacts of people with symptoms will be tested everyday for a week and if negative will not need to isolate for an extra week.
