Cat trapped in Ealing roof rescued by firefighters

A cat has been rescued by firefighters from the roof of her home in Ealing after a curious exploration went awry and she became trapped in the voids.

The daily adventures of black and white moggie Mus, who lives with her owner in Brunswick Gardens, came to an abrupt end on Wednesday when she squeezed through a small space on the roof behind the chimney breast, but was unable to leave the same way.

While it was not hot or tin, the roof the local cat scaled proved so hard for her to vacate that 24 hours later, the London Fire Brigade was required to deploy specialist equipment.

Freeing the feline fell to firefighters from Park Royal Fire Station, who were called to the address near Hanger Lane at 6:45pm.

"We could hear her moving from one void to another and managed to coax her towards an area where an extraction fan was," said Station Officer Nathan Beeby.

"Crews opened up the extractor to expose a small hole and Firefighter Scott Keenan gently pulled her through and safely reunited her with her owners."

The rescue operation was over for firefighters in just over an hour, with Mus safely retrieved from the vent.

In a statement on the incident published yesterday (Wednesday, June 29) the Fire Brigade said: "The work of a firefighter is varied and involves all sorts of different incidents, and they are ready, willing and able to assist distressed or injured animals.

"The last thing firefighters want is for people to put themselves at risk rescuing an animal themselves – but the Brigade does encourage people to call the RSPCA in the first instance and they will assist if specialist equipment is required, as it was in this case."
