ACTON Masjid will for a second time attempt to be the first coronavirus vaccination centre in Acton.

Ealing Central and Acton MP, Rupa Huq, has been lobbying Parliament for a vaccination centre in Acton for some time now.

Last month (March 17), Ealing Council announced it was teaming up with Acton Mosque to trial a one-day COVID pop-up vaccination centre at a place of worship.

Local residents over the age of 55 were urged to book an appointment for the jab, but the pop-up centre was cancelled at the last minute as only four people booked.

This has now been rescheduled for tomorrow (April 7) and those over the age of 55 are urged to book a slot.

The Labour MP told Nub News: "It's great to see that Acton Mosque will hosting a COVID-19 vaccination pop-up centre tomorrow.

"Obviously it's disappointing that the last one folded.

"Let's hope this time people come forward and it's a great success.

"Part of the rationale for this venue was that BAME communities were seen as especially hesitant but everyone would be welcome to the Mosque for their jab.

"I do feel however that what Acton needs is a dedicated vaccination centre rather than these temporary pop up initiatives.

"Even Greenford now has two, yet the East of the Borough is particularly poorly served.

"I am continuing to urge the Government to establish a permanent vaccination centre in Acton – no community should be left behind.

"I have been pressing this at weekly meetings with ministers including Nadhim Zahawi and Matt Hancock and mentioned it just a week ago in a Parliamentary debate.

"I urge everyone to come forward and take the COVID-19 vaccine when they are offered one."
