A group of wildlife presenters have called on Ealing Council to rethink their decision to build a sports facility at Warren Farm.

Iolo Williams of Winterwatch, Dr. Amir Khan of Lorraine, Megan McCubbin and Ajay Tegala of Springwatch, wildlife writer Kabir Kaul, and Billy Heaney of Countryfile have all called upon Ealing Council to reconsider their plans due to the necessity to maintain the natural setting of Warren Farm.

Ealing Wildlife Group brought them together to make a short video outlining the environmental importance of Warren Farm and why it must be protected.

Williams said: "Hello Ealing Council, I see that you are planning to destroy a species-rich 63-acre meadow that is ram-packed full of red data breeding species, the skylark.

"You have been telling everybody that it is either skylarks or the sports complex and we all know that that is not true as you have seven other sites that you are looking at, sites that are more appropriate for this.

"Please will you reconsider and do the right thing, will you look after the biodiversity that you are supposed to be looking after as well as building a sports complex for people to enjoy."

Ealing Council cabinet voted to make half of Warren Farm a Local Nature Reserve and build a sports facility on the other side on Wednesday 25th January.

McCubbin said: "Green spaces in urban environments have never been more important, these little pockets are places people can go to uplift their mental health and reconnect to nature.

"From nature's perspective, these pockets of biodiversity are home, they are where skylarks can sing, from where bees can go from wild flower to wild flower.

"Ultimately these are areas that should be protected, areas that should be enhanced and connected to one another in the face of the climate and biodiversity emergency.

"That is why I am calling on you, Ealing Council, to please reverse that decision and protect Warren Farm.

"We don't need more sports fields at this point in time, but we need more nature, more biodiversity, and more climate security.

"I fear that with this decision we will all come to feel very sad and regret the choices we have made.

"Please protect biodiversity, please protect Warren Farm. We all need to do better."
