Critics' Circle Award for Music prompts update to 'Perivale' book

The Church Commissioners decided in 1976 that St Mary's Perivale should be made redundant. The story of 'The Friend's of St Mary's, Perivale' tells how the local community actively sought a future use for the ancient Church.

The Critics' Circle awarded the title 'Lockdown Star' for 2021 to St Mary's Perivale in recognition of the epidemic activities, which saw over 150 concerts broadcast from the church.

The announcement that 'The Critics' Circle' Award for Music had been bestowed upon the church prompted this update to the historical research done by Eric Beavis in 1960 and has now been built upon by Hillary Beavis.

The original book is reproduced in its entirety and enhanced with new and additional photographs, particularly of the Old Rectory.

Attendance in the Church has returned at the free-of-charge concerts and streaming continues enabling hybrid audience performances by world-class classical music players.

Hillary Beavis said: "This book updates my late Local History Genealogist father's research on 'Perivale' in the 1960's. The original copy is reproduced in its entirety, revised where necessary, and enhanced with new and additional photographs, particularly of the Old Rectory. Copies of the updated book can be bought at local bookshops and Waterstones."
