LONDON is famous for its markets, with Portobello Market arguably being the most well-known in West London.

Similarly to most businesses around the world, Portobello Market traders, which rely so heavily on tourists, have really struggled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Amanda Byrnes is an Ealing resident and one of these Portobello Market traders.

She told Nub News: "Because of lockdown we haven't had any tourists coming to London and the market has really suffered.

"I realised that markets in the current climate could only work if they catered to local residents."

That's why following the success of the Trash & Treasure Flea Market last year in Ealing, Amanda, along with Susie Phillips and Jody Levitus decided to launch their new weekly Trash & Treasure Farmers' Market at St Augustine's Priory School.

Amanda said: "We love what Ealing Farmer's Market are doing, but they're located in West Ealing and there just isn't something accessible for those that live in the north part of the borough.

"We want our new market to be something for the hyperlocal community, easily accessible on foot or with a bike."

The market will open for the first time on Mother's Day, March 14, between 10am and 2pm.

"We want to showcase and promote small, independent Ealing based traders," Amanda added.

There will be around 20 stalls, including butchers, cheese stands, fruit and veg, coffee and street food.

Every three weeks they plan on changing the street food in order to offer a different variety to customers.

There will be a £1 charge upon entry, with all proceeds going to the Priory's farm, in order to help them with the upkeep of their farm animals, which include chickens, ducks, goats and sheep.

Although the number of new coronavirus cases in Ealing and around the country is dropping, face masks will have to be work once inside the market, in order to help suppress the spread of the virus.
