EALING has seen a decrease in the number of new coronavirus cases, following last week's increase.

Specifically, there was a decrease of over 24% of new cases in the latest COVID-19 figures that were released.

In the week of May 10 to 16, Ealing saw 106 new positive cases, compared to 141 the week before.

That figure represents a decrease of 24.8%, with 35 fewer new cases.

That means there was also a decrease in the number of new cases per 100,000 residents, with 31.0, compared to 41.3 the week before.

This comes as Ealing, along with four other West London boroughs, will undergo surge testing from today due to the outbreak of the Indian variant.

Those figures continue to be higher than the average across both London and England, however.

London as a whole had 1,681 new cases during the week of May 10 to 16, which represents 18.8 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

England saw 11,521 new cases during the same week, correlating to 20.5 cases per 100,000 people.
