RESIDENTS in Olde Hanwell have embraced the Christmas spirit by setting up spectacular displays across their windows, as part of their advent window calendar.

Over 200 houses have joined in across 18 roads, with multiple houses lighting their displays each night and more and more joining until Christmas Eve.

Organiser Anna Elliott told Nub News: "Olde Hanwell always takes Halloween very seriously and we put on great decorations.

"This year I wished we could do something for Christmas too and lift people's mood after such a difficult year.

"The idea came to me when I visited my brother-in-law in Chiswick, with his street having done something similar."

Elliott originally coordinated the operation via her road's WhatsApp group chat.

"My original plan was to just do our road, but we didn't get the 24 houses needed.

"That's when some neighbours started asking me if other streets could join in too.

"It was a proper grassroots operation, each house told another and before you know it we have 200 different houses from 18 different roads."

The mum-of-two allocates which houses will be lighting up every night and checks up with them before the big 'reveal' to make sure everything is ready.

She does this while also working full-time from home and raising her twins.

"I really enjoy doing it, I've got all these spread sheets to keep track of everything.

"Everyone is giving up their free time to do it, all the residents are super invested, we have a great team spirit going," she added.

Elliott is still actively seeking for more houses to join in on the advent windows.

She said: "This weekend we're doing a call-out for more houses to join, the more the merrier.

"It's just been so lovely to bump into people in the streets and see how happy and cheery this makes them."
