RESIDENTS in Olde Hanwell have been recognised for their spectacular window displays in December, as part of their advent window calendar.

Over 200 houses joined in across 18 roads, with multiple houses lighting their displays each night.

Their efforts were spotted by the BBC and were included on the BBC London News.

Olde Hanwell residents were the also awarded second place in the Illumination Street competition for Best Community Display by the British Garden Centres.

As part of their reward, they received £200 worth of British Garden Centres vouchers.

Organiser Anna Elliott told Nub News: "The advent windows project was such an amazing community effort with so many people involved.

"We had photographs, social media posts and of course, fantastic displays created by the community not to mention everyone who came to see the windows night after night.

"I saw a poster for the competition in the garden centre and thought it was worth a try to enter.

"It was such a lovely addition to the windows and boosted the feel-good factor even more to win something."

The residents decided they wanted to donate the vouchers and chose the Katherine Buchan Meadow in Hanwell.

Katherine Buchan Meadow wrote on their Facebook page: "We are honoured that Anna has donated £200 of garden centre vouchers, the prize for the amazing window project, to Katherine Buchan Meadow so that the whole community can share the benefit.

"A huge THANK YOU."

Elliott said: "I felt it was important to use the prize vouchers for something that benefits the community.

"Katherine Buchan Meadow is a wonderful space created by our community and used by us all, it was a perfect fit.

"I am delighted to donate the vouchers to the meadow and look forward to seeing how they will be spent."
