THE Metropolitan Police have launched a murder investigation in Ealing following the death of a five-year-old girl yesterday.

Police were called to a home on Leybourne Avenue just before 1pm on Tuesday after concerns were raised for the welfare of the residents.

A 31-year-old woman has been taken into custody after being arrested on suspicion of murder at the scene.

Officers and the London Ambulance attended the property, located near Lammas Park, South Ealing.

Despite their efforts, the five-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

According to police, the girl and woman in custody were known to each other.

Homicide detectives from the Met's Specialist Crime Command are leading the investigation and enquiries are ongoing.

A spokesman for the force said: "Police were called at 12:56hrs on Tuesday, 14 September following concerns for the welfare of the occupants of a residential address on Leyborne Avenue, W13."
