Magna Carta Sinfonia: Alexei Watkins plays Mozart Horn Concerto No.4
St Barnabas Church, Pitshanger Lane, Ealing, W5 1QG
UNTIL Saturday 23rd October
Magna Carta Sinfonia's first live concert begins with the world premiere of Chilean composer Rodrigo Herrera Sinfonietta Modal. Herrera is excited for MCS to perform his new work, and looks forward to building a long-lasting relationship with the orchestra.
MCS are then joined by renowned young hornist Alexei Watkins for Mozart Horn Concerto No.4, who's finale was made popular by the famous Flanders & Swann Parody. Watkins has performed extensively across the country, both as a soloist, and as part of chamber and orchestral ensembles.
Mendelssohn Symphony No.4 follows a short interval - nicknamed The Italian Symphony, the sunny symphony dances its way through pictures of the composer's own trip to the country, from the boisterous and exuberant first movement all the way to the intensely dancing furioso finale.
Peter Le Tissier, founder and artistic director of MCS, conducts this programme, and is particularly looking forward to working with Alexei Watkins after playing together in Thames Youth Orchestra as teenagers.
Magna Carta Sinfonia primarily comprises of students and recent graduates based in and around London. Although MCS have a core group of players, they are a flexible ensemble and often perform repertoire that calls for larger orchestras.
