18+ Hours. One Pianist. 840 Repetitions.

On 16–17 May, west London pianist Andrew Brixey-Williams will sit down at OPEN Ealing Arts Centre and do something that he believes has only been done once before as a solo performance in the UK - play Erik Satie's Vexations - all 840 repetitions of it in a single performance.

Vexations is a short, wistful piece of music Satie wrote around 1893 as his one and only relationship foundered. Performed just once, it lasts about a minute and a half. Performed 840 times in a row, as Satie's own note suggests, it becomes an 18-hour endurance event that blurs the line between concert and vigil.

The performance starts at 7.30 am on the morning of 16th May and is expected to finish around 2.00 on Sunday morning. You're welcome to drop in at any point through the day and night - there's no obligation to stay. Sit, stand, lie - up to you. It's not a conventional concert; more a 'happening'.

Tickets are free. Any voluntary donations go to Young Minds UK, the mental health charity for children and young people.

'If you've ever wondered what it feels like when music stops being entertainment and becomes something closer to time itself — this is worth an hour or two of your weekend'
