O for the Wings of a Dove: the Life of a Cathedral Chorister – A Lecture presented by the Arts Society Ealing
Our rich cathedral choral tradition is unique. Drawing on his own experience as a chorister in Wells Cathedral, Roger will give a lively insight into the life of a cathedral chorister. The lecture will explore the development of the tradition from medieval times to the present. It will be illustrated with examples of some of the outstanding choirs of the 20th and 21st centuries.
Roger Askew was a chorister at Wells Cathedral School and a choral scholar at Magdalen College, Oxford. He combined a teaching career with professional singing in London, and after obtaining a further degree in Music became Director of Music at Daniel Stewart's and Melville College in Edinburgh.
Doors open at 6:45pm, and lecture starts at 7:30pm.
Visitors are welcome to attend at £10 per lecture (£3 for students); payment can be made by card on the evening.
