Hanwell Town had their hopes of a title challenge dashed as they lost 3-0 away from home against fellow challengers Weston-Super-Mare.

Jordan Bastin bagged a first half brace as the Southern League Premier South's second placed side raced into a commanding lead at the break.

As Hanwell pushed for a way back into the game, Jay Murray scored five minutes from time to make the score line flatter the Seagulls.

Despite defeat Hanwell remain in the play-off places but face a big challenge on Wednesday in the shape of Swindon Supermarine who are directly below them.

Weston made a quick start and could have scored inside 10 minutes as Lloyd Humphries' long diagonal pass sent Scott Laird away inside the box but the linesman came to the Geordies' rescue as he ruled him offside.

The goal would come after 12 minutes when Dayle Grubb played a well weighted pass into Bastin and he calmly tucked it beyond Hugo Sobte and give the hosts the lead.

The Seagulls came close again as a fine passing move culminated in the ball being laid off to Jagger Cane but he failed to keep his shot down.

Just three minutes before the break Weston added a second that their performance had deserved, Hanwell had done well to stay in touching distance but shot themselves in the foot as a pass back to Sobte was under hit and allowed Bastin to get on the end of it and take it around the 'keeper and slot into the empty net.

After 53 minutes Jason Pope got forward well from full-back and threaded a pass into Reuben Reid only for his finish to be well blocked.

Just ahead of the hour mark Hanwell had their first real chance of the encounter as a well worked move allowed Daniel Rowe to get a powerful shot away and forced Luke Purnell into a smart stop.

Ten minutes from full-time the Geordies were pushing for a route back into the game and Sham Barnwell looked to chip the 'keeper but it dropped just wide of the mark.

Purnell once again came to the rescue for the hosts as first George Nicholas forced the goalkeeper into a strong save and he parried it out for Barnwell and his shot was miraculously stopped again by Purnell.

After Weston's clean sheet had been preserved the Seagulls went up the other end and Grubb's shot was parried by Sobte but Murray was on hand to turn in the rebound.
