Hanwell Town missed a penalty as they were narrowly defeated 1-0 in Cornwall against top of the table Truro City in the Isthmian League Premier Division.

The Geordies had a penalty saved in an even first half in which there were chances at both ends, but neither side was able to find the finishing touch to take the initiative.

Ben Adelsbury was on hand to tap home a rebound early in the second half and that goal proved to be enough for Truro to claim all three points.

Defeat makes it back-to-back losses for Hanwell for the first time this year and they failed to make up any ground on the play-off places.

Will Dean took an early free-kick from just inside the Hanwell half and delivered it into the centre, neither side managed to get a convincing touch on it and a goalmouth scramble ensued before the Geordies were able to hack the ball to safety.

After 17 minutes Hanwell had a spot kick after a clumsy challenge on the right side of the box, but James Hamon stayed big in the Truro goal and guessed right to make the save.

With four minutes remaining in the first half, Hanwell won the ball back in midfield and slid Kain Adom through on goal, he attempted to lift the ball over the 'keeper with a stretched first-time finish, but his effort flicked off the bar and over.

Early in the second half, a Geordies long throw caused another scramble in the penalty box and the ball eventually came to Adom, but he didn't catch hold of the shot and it rolled harmlessly wide of the upright.

The breakthrough came after 56 minutes when a Truro corner was whipped low towards the near post, it was flicked on and Matteo Salamon under pressure couldn't get a hand on the ball, so Adelsbury got a toe on the ball to take it over the line from a yard out. The Hanwell defenders protested for a foul, but the referee was not interested.

Truro could have been down to ten when Hamon came rushing out of his area to try and prevent Tom McElroy being through on goal, he got his timing wrong and brought down the attacker, but he only received a yellow card.

The resulting free-kick was delivered to the far post and nudged back to an unmarked Harry Rush, but the defender failed to keep his effort down and it sailed over the bar.

Tyler Harvey could have ended the game for Truro as a long bouncing ball sent him through on Salamon, but he directed his effort straight at the goalkeeper.
