Councillor Gary Malcolm on dead animals left on Ealing streets

As a local resident and Liberal Democrat Councillor I see how good or not Ealing Council are at keeping our streets clean and safe.
Whether it is our streets needing to be cleaned to a high standard or making sure broken kerbs or pavements are repaired quickly, Ealing Council is not performing well.
If I were a teacher I would give them a big fat miserable FAIL!
This week I spotted a dead magpie that had been there a while. No Council road sweeper appears to have taken an interest in it.
Liberal Democrats were shocked a few years ago, when I took a phone call from a mother of two very young children on Bollo Lane.
She reported a dead fox on the pavement that had been deceased and was rotting in the heat of Summer for a few days.
Only because I called the relevant officer in the evening did I get a fast response. It was removed 58 minutes later - two minutes before their target time for removing dead animals was to elapse.
Clearly again Ealing Council had ignored the resident who had called the Council a number of times for the dead fox to be removed.
However, since then it appears to have become commonplace for dead animals to be left uncollected such as rats and mice.
When I tried to use the Love Clean Streets app to report the dead magpie the Council had taken away the option to report dead animals and dog poo.
When I 'phoned in' the dead magpie it took about 15 minutes to get through to the operator.
She was friendly but at first said that it was not an emergency. The Council has a rule where dead animals should be removed within the hour.
However in this case they were trying their best to avoid acting on their promises.
Liberal Democrats will not do what the Labour Party are doing which is to actively stop people reporting dead animals.
People deserve clean and safe streets. Liberal Democrats will ensure contractors do what they are meant to do.
