Peter Mason - former Ealing Council housing leader

EALING Council's former housing boss has admitted he 'made a mistake' by accepting sponsorship from developer Berkeley Group, which is building the controversial Southall Green Quarter regeneration site.

Southall Green councillor Peter Mason apologised to local residents and campaigners, members of Clean Air for Southall and Hayes (CASH), in a public meeting where councillors were asked to explain themselves for appearing to 'do nothing' to help their constituents.

SOUTHALL residents have been waiting for nearly 10 months for independent monitoring to begin of the impact of air pollution from the former gasworks site on their health.

Residents and campaigners from Clean Air for Southall and Hayes (CASH) were told in July 2020 by council leader, Julian Bell, that an independent consultant would begin to monitor the site, being regenerated into thousands of homes called the Southall Green Quarter, from August 2020.

GALLERY: Anti-LTN protest march in Ealing

YESTERDAY, April 24, a protest march was held in Ealing against the Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs), which started at Blondin Park and ended at Perceval House.

One Ealing, the anti-LTN group that organised the march claims there were more than 3,000 participants present, with some estimates reaching as high as 5,000.
