Events coming up in Ealing

What's Love Got to Do With It (12A), Watermans

Fri 3 - Thu 9 March. See website for dates and times.

The screening on Tuesday 7 March at 3.45pm is subtitled with audio description and is 'Safe Seating'. The Parent and Baby screening is on Wednesday 8 March at 11.30am.

A brand new rom-com starring Lily James and Emma Thompson. How do you find lasting love in today's world? For documentary-maker and dating app addict Zoe (Lily James), swiping right has only delivered an endless stream of Mr Wrongs, to her eccentric mother Cath's (Emma Thompson) dismay. For Zoe's childhood friend and neighbour Kaz (Shazad Latif), the answer is to follow his parents' example and opt for an arranged (or "assisted") marriage to a bright and beautiful bride from Pakistan. As Zoe films his hopeful journey from London to Lahore to marry a stranger, chosen by his parents, she begins to wonder if she might have something to learn from a profoundly different approach to finding love.

Saturday afternoon life drawing, OPEN Ealing Arts Centre

Saturday Afternoon Life Drawing is a tutored session led by Sheila Moylan. Once a month Sheila leads a friendly class for anyone who wants some guidance on how to draw to the human figure. There's no need to sign up for all sessions, just pay as you go.

Life Drawing – How to begin. Map out a figure simply and then add the detail as you go.  A simple egg shape for the head a rectangle for the torso…

We keep the group numbers low so everyone gets one to one tuition with Sheila during the session.

If you have no or little experience in life drawing and want to learn how to draw the human figure, these tutored life drawing classes will suit you. We have created a supportive friendly setting where you start to get to grips with

  • proportions of the human body
  • how to measure angles
  • how to use tone and shadow to make your drawing 3D
  • faces, hands and feet
  • how to use colour!

If you want a refresher, or just enjoy a spot of figurative art, you'd be very welcome too. We use a different professional model every week so you get to draw a wide variety of figures. The models strike a series of short and long poses.

To join Sheila Moylan for an enjoyable two hours developing your life drawing skills on a Saturday morning, then check out the website.

John Humphreys (lecture) 'A life in music', St Mary's Perivale

John Humphreys was born in Liverpool and studied at the Royal Academy of Music. In 1967 he was awarded one of four scholarships by the Austrian Government to study in Vienna and on his return to this country made his Wigmore Hall debut in 1972.

Since then he has appeared throughout the country as soloist, accompanist and chamber musician. In 1975 he performed the cycle of Mozart piano sonatas in London and elsewhere and has given many performances of Bach's 'Goldberg Variations'. John was Assistant Head of Keyboard Studies at Birmingham Conservatoire until 2009.

He is also Chairman and Artistic Advisor to the Dudley International Piano Competition. In 1998 he was awarded the ARAM for 'his distinguished contribution to music'.

In this wide-ranging lecture, John will discuss his life in music as a performer and teacher, giving advice to young pianists, considering the changing styles of piano playing and the different career opportunities in recent decades, discussing famous pianists he has known, the art of playing piano duos, and sundry other topics related to the piano.   He is a well-known figure in the musical world and an entertaining and illuminating afternoon is guaranteed.

To find out more about this lecture and the other concerts put on at Mt Mary's Perivale, then visit the website.
