West London shisha lounge shuts after an alleged 30-man brawl and stabbing
A shisha lounge in west London has had its licence suspended by Ealing Council after a brawl allegedly led to someone being stabbed.
Cervo Lounge in Park Royal will close immediately pending a Met Police investigation.
The alleged incident took place at the venue in Standard Road on Monday (20 January) at approximately 1:50am.
A brawl broke out involving 30 people fighting, with the victim allegedly receiving multiple stab wounds, the licensing hearing on Friday (January 24) was told.
It is understood that there were over 200 people inside the shisha lounge and restaurant at the time of the alleged incident.
A Met Police Superintendent said: "Expedited proceedings, seeking immediate suspension of the premises licence are necessary to allow us to investigate this incident whilst promoting the licensing objectives, protecting the public, and to address and prevent further incidents as a matter of urgency."
The victim was taken to hospital at the scene, and has since been discharged.
The Metropolitan Police requested the lounge have its licence suspended because they 'didn't trust' that the venue would abide by interim conditions.
PC Vickie Hewison said in a written statement: "At this time, the police licensing team have made attempts to contact the premises licence holder, but have been unable to speak to them by phone.
"An email has been sent and police still await a response."
Mr Uppum, a co-director of Cervo, represented the premises at the hearing.
He apologised for the lack of correspondence and told the committee he did not know about the incident until two days later.
He added: "I had no clue of the severity until this hearing. I am furious, we do not deserve to be open, we should have our licence suspended."
When announcing the committee's decision, Councillor Kim Kaur Nagpal said: "The sub-committee considered the documentation submitted by the police…and have agreed to suspend the licence with immediate effect."
She added: "The panel noted the serious crime and serious disorder associated with the premises…these premises have failed to demonstrate how they would uphold the licensing objectives."
The police investigation continues and it is understood there have been no arrests at this stage.
