UP CLOSE in Ealing with DulcEvie

Today we caught up with Evie Wyniczenko, the Ealing owner of home bakery business, DulcEvie.

Evie Wyniczenko has been around baking her entire life, having been influenced by her mum who baked and cooked a lot when Evie was young.

Over the years Evie spent less time baking, as she didn't really 'think about it seriously' and focused instead on her studies and her career.

Having made the decision to quit her job in recruitment at the start of last March, the 29-year-old couldn't have known what a whirlwind these past 12 months would've been.

She told Nub News: "I had decided to quit my job and finally left at the start of last March, obviously not knowing what would happen.

"That meant that all of a sudden I had a lot of free time and decided to get back into baking."

Being lactose intolerant and gluten free, Evie decided to start experimenting with baking recipes that had been passed on through the generations, from her Polish ancestors.

"I started experimenting and trying out all these different recipes on family and friends and they all seemed to love it.

"At the start I was just giving away my cakes and cupcakes for them to try, but after a while, I started getting requests and offers of payment," she added.

That's when in July, she decided to officially launch DulcEvie, derived from the Latin word 'dulcis', which means sweet.

Evie, who went to school in Ealing, bakes cakes, cupcakes and biscuits for customers, offering a bespoke service, where people can select what kind of cake they'd like.

"I enjoy baking different designs and different types of cakes, so I tend to make most things that people want.

"Anything from cupcakes catered for specific events like Valentine's Day or Mother's Day, to cakes for children's birthdays."

Evie also specialises in vegan options, along with gluten and sugar free options too, catering for those with specific dietary needs.

She said: "As someone who has special dietary needs, I feel like there aren't that many bakeries that tend to those needs, the only sort of place I've been able to find something is Waitrose, but the quality just isn't as good as when it's homemade.

"This is definitely an important aspect for me, mainly because I love cakes and was told I can't have any unless they're basically free from all the 'goodies'."

In the past few months Evie has also started a part-time job working as an office manager for Winkworth estate agents in Ealing Common, but because she only works bi-weekly, she can afford to dedicate a lot of her time to her new business.

She said: "I'm so happy to have gotten back into baking and I'm willing to drop everything else and focus solely on this if it continues to grow."

That's why with the support of her mother, she has started converting her parents' garage at their family home in Harrow into a work area in order to help manage her business better.

"As we continue to grow and have more orders coming in, I need a bigger space to work, so I'm very grateful to my parents who have been super supportive," she added.

Evie delivers throughout London, even travelling as far as Hackney for an order, but also offers free local delivery within a five mile radius.
