West Ealing shops could be knocked down for 21-storey student accommodation block
Plans to build 448 student flats have been put forward to Ealing Council.
Tide Construction Limited has submitted a planning application to demolish a Majestic Wine store on Hastings Road and take over two unoccupied shops on Drayton Green Road.
If approved, the scheme would see a building up to 21 storeys-high built, with shops at the bottom included as well as a home for students.
The application says the development is part of a wider regeneration around West Ealing Station.
"There is an emerging cluster forming around the key transport node," the application said.
"The new building will repair the street frontages and bring life and activity on this corner and improve the public realm."
Plans show that a central courtyard and a south facing roof top terrace would be included as well as parking, study spaces, gym and cycle storage.
The applications also show that Tide Construction Limited will rebuild two existing small shops down in Drayton Green Road.
The developers in their plans have taken the effects of the pandemic into consideration for the layout of the accommodation's space.
They said: "JTP have carried out a lot of research post pandemic, with current and past students, to find out what they liked and didn't like about their accommodation.
"People's priorities have changed since the pandemic."
Residents were consulted on the plans before the application was submitted.
