THE University of West London (UWL) has paid tribute to world renowned chef Albert Roux, who was an honorary graduate of the University.

Roux – a world famous chef and restaurateur who brought French cooking to the UK with his brother Michel – died this week at the age of 85.

As well as an honorary graduate of UWL's London Geller College of Hospitality and Tourism (LGCHT), Roux features on the University's 'wall of fame' of inspirational chefs and visited the campus in Ealing to inspire the next generation.

Roux joined his family in facilitating the globally renowned Roux Scholarship which was hosted annually at LGCHT, and UWL continues to support his work with the Adopt a School scheme and the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts.

James Edmunds, Dean of LGCHT, said: "This is incredibly sad news for all of us at UWL.

"It has been a real honour and privilege to be involved with Albert and the family over the years, both in the industry and at the University.

"The Roux family not only helped transform the culinary heritage of this country, but were extraordinary friends to the University on a personal level.

"Albert will be sadly missed but we will ensure his good work with us goes on so he can continue to inspire future generations of young chefs from around the globe."
