St Benedict’s student battling cancer inspires bursary fund campaign at Ealing Half Marathon

The St Benedict's community will come together on Sunday, 28 September at the Ealing Half Marathon to raise money for the school's Bursary Fund, inspired by Year 13 student Isabel M.
Isabel, who is currently undergoing treatment for cancer, has shown remarkable "strength, humour, and determination" throughout her journey, the school says.
Despite the challenges she faces, she has chosen to lead this campaign in support of the bursary fund that once supported her own education.
The St Benedict's Bursary Fund exists to make education accessible to motivated and talented students, regardless of family circumstances.
It helps current pupils whose families may suddenly face financial difficulties and also opens the door for new students who might otherwise be unable to attend the school. In some cases, bursaries can cover the full cost of school fees.
Thanks to this support, Isabel was able to remain at St Benedict's during a difficult time for her family.
Now, she is giving back by rallying classmates, staff, and the wider school community behind the fund.
Speaking about her campaign, Isabel said: "When my family and I were experiencing such a difficult time, the bursary fund meant I could stay at St Benedict's and have the support of my friends, teachers, and this amazing community around me.
"I'll always be so grateful for that. I chose the bursary fund because I want other families who face similar circumstances such as bereavement or illness to be supported in the same way. It feels amazing to be able to give something back."
Joining Isabel on race day will be fellow Year 13 students Oscar and Freddie, alongside members of staff and students.

Headmaster Joe Smith praised Isabel's determination: "Isabel is an inspiration to us all. Her courage and commitment remind us what true resilience looks like, and her determination to give back, even in the face of personal challenges, speaks volumes about the strength of character we celebrate at St Benedict's."
The school is encouraging the wider community to get involved:
- Cheer: Line the route and show your support on race day.
- Donate: Contribute to the St Benedict's Bursary Fund – every gift, big or small, will make a difference.
