Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters tackled a house fire on Sussex Road in Southall.

Part of the ground floor of a terraced house was damaged by the fire. A woman left the building before the Brigade arrived and was assessed on scene by London Ambulance Service crews.

The fire is believed to have been accidental and caused by a candle placed too close to combustible materials.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "Candles are one of the most common causes of fire. It's really important that you never leave a candle unattended and keep them away from anything else that can easily catch alight.

"Firefighters recommend Londoners have a look at our online Home Fire Safety Checker to make sure there are no hidden hazards in your home.

"The online tool will ask you a series of questions that will help us work out the level of risk in your home, or the home of someone you care for. It only takes a few minutes to get tailored advice to keep yourself and loved ones safe from fire."

The Brigade was called at 3:15pm and the fire was under control by 4:37pm today. Fire crews from Southall, Hayes, Ealing and Heston fire stations attended the scene.
