The six books that will battle it out for Hounslow and Ealing Teen Read 2021 have been announced.

Yesterday afternoon the Hounslow School Library Service (SLS) introduced the six books that have been shortlisted for the award.

These are Chinglish by Sue Cheung, The Last Paper Crane by Kerry Drewery, The Good Hawk by Joseph Elliott, That Asian Kid by Savita Kalhan, Burn by Patrick Ness and Gloves Off by Louisa Reid.

The authors took to Twitter to express their excitement at the nomination.

"Absolutely delighted by this, thank you so much", wrote Elliott.

Reid in turn tweeted: "Wow! Thank you – this is amazing news! What an honour to be shortlisted with these fantastic books!"

Drewery and Kalhan also tweeted their joy at the good news, with the first writing "Thank you so much, and what fantastic company to be in", while the latter adding "So delighted and honoured That Asian Kid is on this amazing shortlist".

To be considered, each book had to be stand alone or be first in a series and published within the past year.

The aim of the shortlist according to the Hounslow SLS is to introduce the students to a variety of authors and genres and to promote reading for pleasure.

Awards will be announced in March.
