The monthly environmentally friendly stall at Acton market is proving a big success at reducing waste and highlighting 'green' businesses.

The Reduce and Recycle Hub is run by Acton-based charity Action West London and it helps to raise awareness for how we can reduce or reuse waste, get residents involved, and help to highlight environmentally conscious business.

The project started in October and in its first three months, saw 122kg of unwanted clothes and shoes stopped from going to landfill and also collected 43kg of electrical items.

Mary Horesh, Acton Market's community circular economy manager, said: "The hub usually runs on the first Saturday of the month alongside Acton Saturday Market W3.

"We want to encourage residents to think about what they consume, and start holding on to items for as longer, reduce how much they waste, reuse items more; and, when they no longer need them, recycle them. We all have a role to play to help save the planet's natural resources.

"At our monthly hubs we gather together lots of great organisations and businesses that help people to do this."

In January 2022 Action West London received National Lottery funding to create this climate action zone as part of a two-year project.

Some of the things you can do at the hub is: recycle old clothes, shoes, and electrical devices to be donated to Traid and The Fixing Factory; repair your old clothes at the Ealing Repair Café; get your bike checked by Dr Bike; and shop for pre-loved goods or second-hand clothes from high street brands.
