Palestine Solidarity Campaign's (PSC) West London branch has published an open letter to Ealing Council Leader Peter Mason and every councillor seeking their vote on a petition to 'support civilians affected by the War on Gaza'.

The group say this open letter comes after a first call of support from Ealing Council back in February of this year.

Since then, PSC ran an ePetition on Ealing Council's website from July to 3 July 2024 to 30 September 2024, which received 627 eSignatures and according to the group over 3,800 signatures in person.

The petition will be debated at the full council meeting on 10 December 2024.

In its letter to Cllr Mason and others, PSC explain: "Since we wrote to you in February 2024 seeking Ealing Councillor support, the situation on the ground has grown catastrophically worse, something no doubt you will have seen yourself on media and internet reports.

"We are therefore asking for a second time that Ealing Council play its part in supporting civilians affected by this crisis, as you did for Ukrainians, and take what action you can to call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire to stop the catastrophic loss of innocent lives and ensure the safe return of hostages, and to divestment from any funds in the Council Pension Scheme which includes companies supporting arms sales to Israel and the illegal occupation and settlement of Palestine.

"Something three London Councils have done this year already. "

PSC add: "We know this is an historical moment in history for both International Law and Order and humanitarian protections; something which current actions by the Israeli State are undermining every day in relation to the UN Charter, International Humanitarian law, the Geneva Convention and the Genocide Convention as demonstrated by its failure to comply with ICJ orders, issued on the 26 of January 2024 and the 24 of May 2024.

"Respectively we ask therefore that, along with reading the references provided further down in this letter, you watch the following documentaries covering Life and Death in Gaza, Aid supplies to Gaza, and Not Just Numbers and take into consideration the vast majority of our community, and your electorate, who are deeply disturbed by UK's political unwillingness to take effective action against Israel and the risk you are making us all complicit in its war crimes."

Ealing Council and Cllr Mason have been approached for comment.
