Plans to convert old Brentford stadium into new homes submitted
A housing developer has submitted plans to Hounslow Council to convert former Brentford FC stadium Griffin Park into a residential site.
EcoWorld London says the plans form the next stage of the multi site residential plan following its work on the G-Tech Stadium.
The plans include the construction of 149 homes, 1770 square meters of public green space and a promise to improve connectivity in the area through the introduction of pedestrianised routes throughout the proposed neighbourhood.
The plans outline a mix of affordable homes that will be 'available via discount market sale to meet the needs of local residents' and homes for market sale.
Planning documents show the redevelopment will consist of 41 houses, a four-storey apartment block, two six-storey apartment blocks, private amenity space, car parking and 'a large Green at the heart' providing a playspace for children.
The flats and houses will range from one-bedroom to five-bedroom. Of the 149 homes, 30 will be available at discount market sale for key workers and Hounslow residents, and none will be available for rent.
Griffin Park was home to Brentford FC for over 115 years. The stadium, which opened in 1904, was demolished in 2023 following the teams move to the G-Tech.
Previous plans in 2021 would have delivered 75 private homes on the site, however following consultation with the architect HTA design and Hounslow Council, the revised plans create double that – an extra 76 homes. EcoWorld London has also consulted with local residents and Brentford fans on the design of the now larger public park – which in addition to the green space will feature a central area that celebrates the history of the site.
Unlike proposals submitted in 2021, these plans promise to deliver a biodiversity net gain with over 100 new trees, and a 60 per cent carbon reduction with the introduction of solar panels, electric vehicle charging points and low carbon heating systems.
Gregor Mitchell, Senior Director at EcoWorld London told the Local Democracy Reporting Service : "EcoWorld London has a longstanding commitment to delivering quality new homes within Hounslow, both at the Griffin Park site and also on various other locations across the borough. This location is a key part of the wider site, opening this area of Brentford to the community and reconnecting into the neighbourhood fabric through the new pedestrian routes and community park to celebrate the history and heritage of Griffin Park.
"EcoWorld London was selected by Brentford Football Club to deliver a new football stadium as a result of our ability to deliver ambitious developments at scale. Whilst the new stadium was under construction, EcoWorld London and the club worked together to ensure the team could continue playing in the former stadium.
"The new club, which was delivered in 2020 and has facilitated the club's premiere league compliance and improved the match day experience, has been part-funded by EcoWorld London's delivery of the much-needed housing across Hounslow, including on this site."
