Perivale Park Golf Course could close as regional park scheme underway
Ealing Council is proposing to create a new regional park in Ealing which would mean the closure of Perivale Park Golf Course.
The project is in the first phase where the public can decide through a survey what they think about the proposed plans.
Ealing Council says: "To move forward with the plan, we are proposing to close Perivale Park Golf Course so more people can enjoy this space, and it can become part of the new regional park."
Local residents and users of Perivale Park Golf Course launched a petition back on 7 September to save the green.
That petition has since received 2,799 signatures at the time of writing this.
In reaction to the council's news, organiser of the petition, David Chapman said: "We do recognise there are a number of features that are very positive about a regional park, however there are also many benefits for keeping Perivale Park Golf course as part of this proposed park.
"Let's prevent the loss of Perivale Park Golf course as we have seen with other municipal sports facilities, Gurnell Leisure Centre and Warren Farm Sports Centre.
"Make your voice heard in support of keeping Perivale Park Golf course for use by all in the community, once gone it will be lost for ever."
Councillor Peter Mason, leader of Ealing Council, said: "We know how important green spaces are for our mental and physical wellbeing. So a regional park on our doorstep is an exciting proposition.
"We know that local people know best about their neighbourhoods, so we want to know what you want to see as part of a new park.
"What will bring you the most joy and mean that you and your family can get the most enjoyment out of a big new green space in Ealing?"
The council believes Ealing's regional park could be as transformative for west London as the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park has been for east London.
Councillor Deirdre Costigan, council's deputy leader and cabinet member for climate action, said: "We have planted thousands of trees in the borough and opened new parks and community growing spaces but we are really ramping up our drive to net zero and to tackling the climate crisis with our plans for a regional park.
"A park of this size in Ealing will be a game changer, acting as a new green lung for London whilst improving air quality for generations to come.
"It will be a place for people to get active, whether it's walking, running, cycling or scooting, to connect with nature, enjoy wildlife and breathe fresh air."
The survey from the council asks the public if they would agree with the plans, what they would like to see included and if they would want to keep Perivale Golf Course.
