Local author Donald Power launched his book 'An Economy of Want' at the West London Trade Union Club (WLTUC) on 31 January 2025.

At the event a discussion was chaired by Ealing Central and Acton MP Dr Rupa Huq with Ealing Friends of the Earth co-hosting alongside WLTUC.

Power says his book explains how economics underlies two interlocking global crises.

One being the problem of providing decent livelihoods (jobs, housing, basic public services), and the other, the looming climate catastrophe that without urgent action will derail our ability to do so completely.

The author comments: "Many alternative economics books tell us what we 'ought' to do.

"This one is different: it aims to give a realistic description of how the economy actually operates now – on the principle that if you don't understand how something works, you can't hope to fix it."

'An Economy of Want' is available on Amazon with the e-book being occasionally free to download.

More details including dates when the e-book is free and the local bookshops that stock the paperback, are on the website: http://economyofwant.uk
