The Liberal Democrat motion included commitments that Ealing Council should:

  • Exert our (Ealing Council) influence to demand better for residents who are currently experiencing issues with their Housing Associations.
  • Signpost residents to help resolve ongoing issues.
  • Organise a roundtable between Housing Associations and Councillors.
  • Review the relationship with Housing Associations which have significant issues including building defects within their existing stock.
  • Ensure that our community safety team works with Housing Associations to protect their tenants from the anti-social behaviour of other tenants.

Councillor Jon Ball, Liberal Democrat Opposition Planning and Housing spokesperson, said: "Liberal Democrats see the failings of housing associations in Ealing. Many of these organisations fail to address the housing needs of our community and tenant's concerns are ignored. Leaks, mould, unsafe security doors, even broken lifts – all of these take too long to fix and leave residents in a dangerous situation. Liberal Democrats say that Ealing Council needs to work with housing associations to ensure that these problems can be addressed, and addressed quickly as they blight lives."
