The Liberal Democrats have criticised Ealing Council for their handling of public complaints after claims.co.uk put them in their list of the ten most complained about councils in England.

claims.co.uk, investigated council complaint data using freedom of information requests for complaints made to the Local Government Ombudsman between 2016 and 2022. This revealed that Ealing Council is in the top ten most complained about Council in the country and in the top five for London.

Councillor Gary Malcolm, Leader of the Opposition, said: "Liberal Democrats say that Ealing Council has always had lots of complaints. Sadly, Labour-run Ealing Council have made the process of making complaints more difficult.

"Liberal Democrats would ensure that people's complaints and issues are dealt with faster and that vulnerable residents are not forgotten about."

The list saw nine of the top ten be London Borough councils, and Ealing ranked fifth in the nation, with nearby Hounslow Council also coming in in tenth position.

claims.co.uk said on their website on Ealing Council: "We found that Ealing has the lowest percentage of upheld complaints among the rest of the top 10 councils with the most complaints per 10,000 people.

"From 2016 to 2022, only 142 complaints were upheld and 93 were not, meaning there was an upheld rate of only 60.42%."
