At the Council meeting (19 September 2023), the Lib Dems condemned Labour's handling of the reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) situation which is affecting Ellen Wilkinson School in Acton.
The Liberal Democrats criticised the decision to reduce the school rebuilding programme and the Government's management.
Lib Dems believe Ealing Council should undertake a review of its public buildings.
They want the current Labour administration to set in motion a review of the current state of RAAC across public buildings in the borough including:
- NHS buildings, hospitals, clinics, health centres and GP facilities
- Council buildings
- Community buildings including halls
- Courts
Liberal Democrats are checking the catering provision at Ellen Wilkinson as the dining room is out of use due to RAAC.
This will impact the provision of hot meals over the coming months.
Liberal Democrat Councillor Jon Ball Opposition Spokesperson on Planning, Licensing and Housing said: "Liberal Democrats are calling for an immediate survey of public buildings in Ealing to ensure safety for children and the public.
"Both the Conservative Government and the local Labour council seem paralysed in reviewing the RAAC situation. When asked about this a few months ago the Council lied saying that all schools were not affected by the concrete issues. It is important to know the extent of RAAC across the borough so that appropriate contingency plans can be affected."
