A TOTAL of 27 arrests have been made following a large-scale operation to reduce violent crime in Ealing and neighbouring West London boroughs – Hounslow, Hillingdon and Hammersmith & Fulham.

'Operation Beacon' was conducted over a two-day period (March 4 and 5), with the aim of tackling gang activity and associated violence.

The operation resulted in a total of 27 arrests, on suspicion of a range of offences, such as, possession of an offensive weapon, drug driving, possession of criminal property, possession with the intent to supply Class A and B drugs and concerned in supply.

In addition, 207 stop and searches were conducted and a number of penalty notices for disorder and community resolutions were issued.

Officers seized more than £10,000 in cash and around £30,000 worth of Class A drugs, including 600 ecstasy tablets.

Acting Detective Inspector Sarah Herson, who led the operation, said: "This incredibly successful collaboration has resulted in the arrests of 27 high harm and dangerous offenders.

"We will continue to break down intelligence barriers and relentlessly pursue those who use our transport networks and local estates to commit violent crime, enable drug supply and target our most vulnerable.

"I have no doubt that these efforts have helped disrupt significant offending and kept the community safe.

"I would like to thank all those who took part in the operation who showed unwavering dedication, resilience and teamwork to help bring some of the most prolific criminals to justice."
