Labour's Sahota wins Ealing and Hillingdon London Assembly seat, but Tory Bailey secures more votes than Khan in Mayoral election
LABOUR candidate Dr Onkar Sahota has held on to his Greater London Assembly (GLA) seat and will represent Ealing and Hillingdon for a third term.
He secured 85,216 votes, 8,242 more than his Conservative challenger, Greg Stafford, who pulled in 76,974 votes.
Although Dr Sahota kept his seat, he saw his majority cut in half, as in 2016 he had won by nearly 16,000 votes.
This year's GLA voter turnout was 1% higher than in 2016, with 47% compared to 46% five years ago.
The Tory resurgence was also present in the Mayoral election, with Shaun Bailey emerging as the preferred candidate among Ealing and Hillingdon voters, collecting 79,853 votes.
Incumbent London Mayor Sadiq Khan received 74,854 votes, 4,999 less than his Conservative challenger.
The full London Mayor results have not yet been announced, so stay tuned for more.
