Ealing residents came together to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in spectacular fashion but the bank holiday weekend was just the start.

Hanwell Carnival returns this weekend after a two-year covid-instigated hiatus, and with the warm up revelling the jubilee weekend afforded both royalists and rather-less-loyalists, the 2022 festival is set to be bigger and brighter than ever.

Whether you're taking part or planning to party, read on for your complete guide to Hanwell Carnival, 2022.

Hanwell Carnival 2022

When: Saturday, June 18

Where: Hanwell Community Centre & Elthorne Park

What: The annual parade, music stages, animal zone, dog show, charity and trade stalls, craft tent, food stalls, licensed bar, funfair,

Hanwell Carnival: The Parade

What would Hanwell Carnival be without The Parade to kickstart it in bright, marching glory?

Expect cheering crowds to line the streets as a procession of floats, marching bands, the Hanwell Ukelele Band and fancy-dressed Hanwellians driving vintage vehicles make their way from Hanwell Community Centre (HCC) to Elthorne Park.

The theme for this year's Parade is HANWELL – INTO THE FUTURE.

Local schools, scouts, musical acts, community organisations and local businesses are invited to march the circa 2.3 miles (3.7km). Click here to book your free place in the Parade.

Paraders should meet at the HCC on Saturday morning by 10am, with a request that large trucks be in place by 8am.

The parade will set off at around 11am and aims to arrive at Elthorne Park by 12:30, ready for the Grand Opening Ceremony of Carnival.

Hanwell Carnival: The Music

Two performance areas will feature bands that span all music tastes. Below is the Main Stage programme with some local artists, and others from further afield.

The Community Stage at the bandstand will showcase local talent in music, dance and sports from a programme curated by Westside Radio, Hanwell's community radio station, who has scoured the Ealing area for local rising stars.

Ralph Brookfield, member of the carnival committee, said: "On the music stage we have assembled a great line-up featuring several local bands.

"The Volted Hearts offer a mix of 60s garage pop, 70s new wave, Motown, Stax and soul, while the Hornets focus on 60s R&B with a mixture of covers and originals. Branwell Black brings electropop and glamour – on the dot at 3pm. And, of course, we have the irrepressible HUG on stage as well as many others.

"The Westside Radio Community Stage was a great success last year and it is back again, sponsored by Turtle Bay.

"Hosted by Fee Mak and Issra with DJ D-Zine, Westside bring you a fantastic mix of entertainment including Irish dance, taekwondo, bhangra, breakdance, Ealing Rock Choir, Zumba and DJ jam sessions."

Hanwell Carnival: The Dog Show

The dog show has been a part of Hanwell Carnival for time immemorial and for reasons that require little explanation is a beloved event.

"One of the most popular attractions," confirmed Allison Coles, another Hanwell Carnival committee member.

This year will be no exception. The show is run by local experts from SIT Dog Training in Brentford.

Allison added: "This year the classes include scruffiest dog and Hanwell dogs have talent. Owners can enrol their dogs for the various classes on the day. Close by is the Animal Zone (sponsored by Ealing Farmers' Market) offering donkey rides and a petting farm featuring Shetland ponies, sheep, goats and rabbits."

Fido's entry fee is £4 for one class or £7 for two.

Hanwell Carnival: The Stalls

A big part of Carnival is the charity stalls and this year over 30 local charities will present at Elthorne Park.

"For many of them this is the biggest fundraising event of the year, so we encourage all visitors to support their causes," said Allison Coles.

Prizes for children to remember the day will be up for grabs at many of the charity stalls too.

"We also have the trade stall section where – amongst other things – you can pick up original works of art, rum punch, jewellery and speciality cakes and pastries.

"In the Craft Tent there is a heady mixture of products all made by local crafters – ceramics, woodcraft, skincare, prints, silk scarves etc etc. All items are sensibly priced so you may find some unexpected bargains in there."

The price for a 6' x 2' table is £55 – click here to register a stall in the Craft Tent.

Hanwell Carnival: The Sports Zone and Kids' Fun

The sports zone will welcome Hanwell Town FC to the carnival following the London Geordies fantastic 2021/22 season which culminated in promotion to Step 3 of non-league football for the first time in the team's history.

Together with Ealing Eagles Ball Hockey Club, they will be giving carnival-goers the opportunity for a spot of physical exercise.

All the usual attractions for the young (and young at heart) will be here, including face-painting, funfair, go-karts and inflatables.

Hanwell Carnival: Food, drink and treats

Caribbean, west African, German and Greek cuisines will be available alongside burgers, hot dogs, vegan options and – looking at the weather forecast – much-needed ice cream.
