GALLERY: First look at Pitzhanger's This is Ealing exhibition

By Dimitris Kouimtsidis 26th Aug 2021

YESTERDAY (May 27) was the opening day for the This is Ealing exhibition at Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery.

Ealing Nub News was invited to attend and enjoy what this new exhibition had to offer.

Showing nearly 200 photographs taken across Ealing, the exhibition presents a genuine insight into the collective experience of our local community over the past year.

These range from gardening, home-haircuts, video calls with friends and family, homeschooling, lack of toilet paper at supermarkets, social distancing in the park and even anti-LTN protests.

Ealing residents were invited to submit their images, with all submissions being used and none turned away.

Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery curator, John Leslie, was the one who came up with the final design and decided how all the submissions would be laid out.

Lots of residents who had submitted pictures attended the opening day in order to see their photos on display.

Such an example is the Zydor family – Karol, Kat and their five-year-old son, Kosma.

Kat told Ealing Nub News: "Karol was the one who took the picture during the first lockdown a year ago.

"I was just helping Kosma with his homeschooling and Karol took the photo on his iPhone, just to capture the natural moment.

"It's great that we managed to capture that moment which was a part of an unforgettable year, which was definitely very difficult for many families around the world with children not being in school.

"And we're very happy to see our photo here on display in such a beautiful space."

This is Ealing will run until June 6 and is free for Ealing residents, with tickets costing £7.70 for those not living in our borough.

Pitzhanger is open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am-5pm, excluding Thursdays when it closes at 7pm.
