EALING will join the rest of the country and honour the memory of Prince Philip tomorrow afternoon (April 17).

A minute's silence will be held outside Ealing Town Hall at 3pm, to mark the funeral of The Duke of Edinburgh, who passed away a week ago at the age of 99.

Prayers will be led by Reverend Dean Ayres of St Mary's Church in Acton, with the Mayor of Ealing, cllr Dr Abdullah Gulaid and other local dignitaries being present at the event.

Under normal circumstances (i.e. no pandemic), residents would be welcome to go along and observe the silence in person.

However, due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, the event will not be open to the public and residents are instead encouraged to observe the minute's silence at home, while watching the funeral on TV.

The Ealing event will be socially distanced, with all participants being asked to take a rapid COVID test before the event.

Flags on Ealing's public buildings will be flown at half-mast and a national book of condolence has been opened by the Royal Household for those who wish to send messages of condolence.

The Royal Family have asked that floral tributes are not left, even at local civic buildings like Ealing Town Hall, but that donations are made to charities linked to Prince Philip instead.

You can watch a live stream of the event in Ealing on the Council's YouTube channel HERE.
