Ealing MP calls on PM for 'more action' on Israel Hamas conflict
Dr. Rupa Huq MP wrote to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak expressing concerns about the recent conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
The Ealing MP condemned the loss of innocent lives and the suffering caused by the conflict, especially among the civilian population, including children.
She said: "I, like you, strongly condemn this indiscriminate slaughter of so many from babies to youth at a pop festival to elderly even holocaust survivors which united the world in revulsion."
Dr Huq called for more action, including ending the siege, ensuring unimpeded access to necessities, and holding Israel accountable if they are found to be breaking international law.
"The aid you have committed is welcome but more action is required given the gravity of the situation.
"I urge you to encourage an end to the siege to allow unimpeded and safe access of free flowing bare necessities.
"You must also insist that Israel comply with international law. Many assert that war crimes are being committed - please can you be full throated in your condemnation of these if proven," she wrote.
Dr Huq also advocated for a humanitarian ceasefire and emphasised the importance of the UK's historic responsibility in the region and its commitment to a two-state solution for long-term peace.
"I was pleased to hear you recommit to government policy for a two-state solution. Working internationally for the political solution that alone can bring long-term peace," she added.
The MP also urged the Prime Minister to provide leadership and continue working towards ending the bloodshed in the region.
The PM has yet to respond.
