AN Ealing man has been sentenced to three months in prison after pleading guilty to driving whilst disqualified and with no insurance.
John Shahbaznia, 50, of Ferrymead Avenue, Greenford, pleaded guilty on Friday, March 19 at Uxbridge Magistrates Court.
Officers from Ealing ASB Team were on patrol on Bordars Road in Hanwell on February 4, when they saw Shahbaznia on an e-scooter.
E-scooters are classified as motor vehicles and as such require at least third-party insurance for them to be used on the road.
At the same time, e-scooters are not fit for road use and as such cannot be insured.
The only way they can be used on the road or in a public place is if they are from an e-scooter hire scheme.
There are no such hire schemes in Ealing Borough and it was therefore believed that Shahbaznia was riding the vehicle on a road without insurance.
The officers on patrol indicated to Shahbaznia to pull over and he was reported for driving without insurance and his e-scooter was seized.
Shahbaznia was also reported the previous day (February 3) for driving whilst disqualified and with no insurance, and had his car seized by officers from the Road Transport Policing Command.
PC Dave Young from the Ealing ASB Team said: "Mr Shahbaznia showed a flagrant disregard for Court Orders by driving whilst disqualified.
"Albeit on an E-Scooter, Mr Shahbaznia continued to drive and the result of his actions and the motoring offences committed were dealt with severely by the court which has been reflected by the custodial sentence."
