Ealing Council are calling on the public to help them with ideas to improve Southall Square and make the area better for the environment.

Earlier this year, the council secured funding from the Mayor of London's Growing Back Greener fund to help revitalise Southall Square.

First ideas to improve the space include, planting more trees, space for edible plants, herbs and flowers, creating additional seating, bringing in community activities and even a vibrant street market, but a consultation has been launched for the public to get involved.

Councillor Deirdre Costigan, cabinet member for climate action, said: "We are committed to tackling climate change right here in our borough.

"That's why in addition to the Growing Back Greener fund, we are investing an extra £14,220 into Southall Square so we can transform it into a much-needed green space for our residents to enjoy – a mini-oasis in the middle of a buzzing town centre."

As well as improvements to the area, there are also plans to replace the concrete pavements in favour of more green areas, this will not only help in creating cleaner air, but will also support local nature and wildlife, alongside sustainable drainage of rainfall.

The Growing Back Greener fund is designed to support community projects that look to create and enhance green spaces and improve the climate resilience of the capital.

The survey will be open until 18th April 2023, to give the public time to contribute to this project.

To take part in the survey, visit the council's website.
