EALING Council has ranked third in the UK for most money made from parking fines in a single year.
This information has been revealed by price comparison site, Compare The Market, which issued Freedom of Information requests to local authorities in August.
The data covers the period from August 2019 to July 2020 and therefore does not account for the reduced traffic volumes caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Ealing Council raked in £8.372 million in that year alone, ranking it third, only behind fellow London boroughs, Newham and Haringey.
Ealing climbs a place higher on the leader board when looking at PCNs issued, as it ranks second only behind Newham with 157,759, which corresponds to over 432 fines per day.
The average cost of each fine was £53.07 and the location with the highest number of PCNs issued was Longfield Avenue/New Broadway.
The average authority collected just over £850,000 in fines during that 12-month period, highlighting how Ealing was 10 times higher than the average.
Similarly, the average number of PCNs issued by each authority was 23,000, which means that Ealing issued just under seven times higher than the average.
Dan Hutson, Head of Motor at Compare The Market said: "Parking fine revenues are a cash cow for many local authorities.
"Up and down the country drivers are regularly being caught out by tight parking restrictions.
"With the third lockdown now in place, we would encourage drivers to take extra care and attention when parking up their car to ensure they avoid a parking fine."
